Arhat (Pantaka)

Pantaka ārya is sitting on the mat, full-cheeked, brows knitted, with deeply set eyes and a large nose, while an alms bowl is behind him. Xia Jing Shan uses this painting to capture the instant when the ārya has just ended his meditation and is about to get up - arms raised high as he is stretching, mouth wide open, showing a highly human and kind side to the ārya.
