Standing on a single-petal lotus amidst crashing waves, Avalokiteśvara extends a helping hand to those crying out for help. The compassionate Avalokiteśvara is depicted in this painting by Xia Jing Shan with the use of a warm color palette, and in the white robe with exquisite patterns and embellishments intricately painted with vivid colors. Predominately illustrated with robust and majestic lines of ink, the ambiance the painting exudes is peaceful and harmonious. The painting is inscribed with the foreword by Dharma Master Dao Gen published in Notes on The Universal Gate by Dharma Master Sheng Yi. Avalokiteśvara gives relief and help to all sentient beings, and when people chant the venerable name of Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva will manifest anywhere in the world to rescue people from suffering and danger, with the ultimate goal of taking them to the other side, to attain Nirvana.
