Shide was abandoned in the wild by parents when he was born. And when monk Fenggan of Guoqing Temple passed through, he found Shide, picked him up and took him back to the temple, where the monks raised him. Through portraying Shide's image, Xia attempts to convey that only by self-practice, self enlightenment and self-realization can one understand the profound meaning of buddhist philosophy.
