Avalokiteśvara and Sudhanakumâra

Avalokiteśvara is holding Buddhist prayer beads and sitting atop a rock, gazing at the Sudhanakumâra (Child of Wealth) below. Sudhanakumâra has his hands together, raised high in front of his head, respectfully worshiping and asking for guidance. The original theme of Sudhanakumâra worshiping Avalokiteśvara come from the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, where Sudhanakumâra wants to become enlightened, and visits the various source of knowledge, one of whom is Avalokiteśvara. Xia Jing Shan uses blue-green landscape to illustrate this scene, and uses bright scarlet red to decorate the clothing of the Avalokiteśvara in white and Sudhana, and the wonderful use of the colors serve magnificent final touches that amplify the artistic concepts in the work.
