Avalokiteśvara standing on a lotus base

Avalokiteśvara holds prayer beads in hand and stands on a lotus base. Since ancient time, the lotus symbolizes purity, untaintedness, holiness, thus most of the inhabitants of the Buddhist paradise are born of lotuses. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are often sitting on lotus bases, to differentiate them as they are not born of the world’s desires. Xia Jing Shan makes the best of using water ink and decorative painting approaches to create the harmonious, holy environment in which the Mount Putuo Avalokiteśvara resides, which is also pure, untainted and solemn.
