In Xia Jing Shan's Zhong Kui series, he reverses the traditional appearance of a burly man, and combines the eight elegance of life in traditional Chinese culture: qin, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, wine, flowers, and tea, presenting Zhong Kui as a scholar.
This painting depicts Zhong Kui traveling with his family in the late autumn season. The big rock in the foreground lifts the curtain. Zhong Kui, who is wearing a blue official robe on the boat, plays the Guqin with all his attention. The lady behind him is Sister of Zhong Kui, with a graceful face, listening quietly. There are entourages in front of him who are staring at the burning smoke. The incense utensils are interactive and interesting; the distant scenery of the mountains and forests dyed red, the clouds and mists are curling, the autumn is strong, and the water surface is sparkling.
