This work shows Bodhidharma by himself amidst the spiritual mountains, practicing, reflecting. It realizes the Zen state of “seemingly of the form yet not of the form and knowing oneself.” Xia Jing Shan uses white to depict the folding of the clothing and the scroll of Buddha scripture. The shades of ink with the arrangement of the real and non-real creates a scene of seeming nothingness.
