Zhong Kui Moving House

The image illustrates what happens when Zhong Kui is moving with his family and attendants. The overly playful attendant in the front fell into the river, while the others in the parade in the central scene are busy with their duties. During the procession, Zhong Kui is still being mindful of her sister on the back of the ox. A few attendants can still be seen in the half-hidden mountains far away, showing how large the procession is. This work takes a classic S-shaped structure; the entire painting uses medium and faint ink as base tone, and is rhythmic. Xia Jing Shan is adept at using the lines of movement for characters and the clever placements with the scenery, thus vitalizing the richness of the characters’ images. The heavy malachite green is used as moss for decoration to increase the richness of the image.
